Police are preparing to evacuate residents from 100 homes because of flooding.

Emergency services were called to the town of South Woodham Ferrers in Essex at about 6.30am to reports of water gushing from a drain.

Some homes in East Bridge Road have already been flooded.

A police spokesman said: “The water has entered properties and up to 100 homes are likely to be evacuated.

“An emergency reception area is being set up for those people evacuated from their homes.”
