A lollipop man has died after he was hit by a car while escorting a parent across the road to pick a child up from school.

Raymond Elsmore, 82, who had worked for about 10 years helping children at Queens Inclosure Primary School in Waterlooville, Hampshire, suffered head injuries in the accident at 3.05pm on Wednesday.

Mr Elsmore, who was wearing his uniform and carrying his lollipop, was hit by a Nissan Micra car. The 21-year-old female driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. She was released on bail until 31 January.
