Man dies in bungalow fire

An investigation was under way today into the cause of a New Year's Eve house fire which left a man dead.

Fire crews were called to an address in Thornton, near Fleetwood in Lancashire, at around 9.40pm yesterday.

Six firefighters entered the blazing bungalow using breathing apparatus and equipped with two hose reels and a thermal imaging camera.

The found the occupant, a man in his 60s, dead in a front room of the property in Tennyson Avenue.

It is thought the fire started in the living room.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said a joint investigation was under way with Lancashire Fire Service although the blaze was not being treated as suspicious.
