A man escaped unhurt yesterday when he was struck by a car and carried on its bonnet for more than a mile.

The victim, 54, who had got out of his Mercedes after a road accident, was forced to cling to the Rover 214 as it drove along the A51 near Rugeley, Staffordshire. A police spokesman said the incident followed a collision in Bishton at 7.30am.

"Following the collision, the driver of the Mercedes, from the Madeley area, got out of his vehicle and was struck by the Rover," the spokesman said. "He was carried on the bonnet for over a mile until it finally stopped. The person who was on the bonnet was shocked, but unhurt as a result of his ordeal."

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned and any witnesses have been asked to contact Stone CID.
