An Audi dealership in Milton Keynes suffered a partial roof collapse on Monday, sending 20 vehicles from the showroom crashing through to the workshop below.

The cars were left damaged after a section of the showroom floor collapsed at around midday at the dealership on Northfield Drive.

The building was evacuated and no one was injured, partly due to the “quick thinking” of the staff in the workshop, firefighters told the BBC.

“People working within a workshop heard a loud bang and promptly hit the fire alarm call point, which was quick thinking on their part,” Ian Wilson, from Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue, said.

“Within 20 minutes a third of the floor above the workshop collapsed,” he told the broadcaster, adding that staff had a “lucky escape”.

Jardine Motors Group, which runs the showroom, said in a statement it is investigating the cause of the collapse and the extent of the damage.

“We have enacted our Business Continuity Plan, including the support of the Audi dealership team, to ensure that we can provide a suitable service level to all customers as soon as possible. All customers directly affected by this incident will be contacted in person,” the statement read.

The showroom has been temporarily closed.
