Competitors set off from the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester on a 10,000-mile journey to Mongolia.

More than 400 teams are taking part in the event, which is limited to cars with an engine size of less than one litre. The teams, racing without emergency back-up vehicles, will travel through 15 countries to the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator for charity.

Many cars break down during the race and there have been serious injuries in previous rallies, during which drivers will go as far north as the Arctic Circle and as far south as Afghanistan.
