Princess Charlotte will be christened on 5 July, it has been announced.

Kensington Palace said the ceremony would take place at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, near the Queen's royal residence.

The religious ritual will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

The baby, who is famous by virtue of her relationship to the Queen, was born on 2 May at St Mary's Hospital in London.

She weighed 3.7kg at the time.

The child's parents are Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. The Queen is the baby's great-grandmother.

Her brother is Prince George, who was born in 2013.
