Storm Callum wind 'breaks speed limit'

Storm Callum caused further disruption across the UK on Saturday, as heavy downpours continued.

An amber warning for rain remained in place until 6pm for south Wales, which was hit with severe flooding, swollen rivers and blocked roads.

Heavy rainfall in the area led to the River Usk bursting its banks.

The town of Crickhowell was hit by particularly severe flooding as water from the river flowed into roads, leaving them blocked.

Teams from Natural Resources Wales used sandbags in an attempt to divert the floodwaters.

People were warned to stay away from the coast (LNP)

They also closed some flood gates and deployed pumps.

Residents on Twitter described the town as an "island" as main roads out of the area were briefly blocked.

Particularly high rainfall was recorded across the Brecon Beacons, with the village of Libanus receiving 182 mm of rain in 48 hours.

Bad weather also led to speed restrictions being imposed on rail routes, causing numerous travel delays.

A key road in Scotland, the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful in Argyll and Bute, was closed following tonnes of debris falling on to it after multiple landslips.

3,000 tonnes of debris has fallen on to the road since Tuesday.

Drivers across the UK were warned to take care, due to surface water on the roads causing accidents.

The Met Office said that rain would continue through Saturday night over Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Showers should ease over Wales and the climate will be mild in England overnight.
