UK weather: The outlook is bleak this week but bank holiday will bring some relief

Prepare to get your coat and umbrella out because the weather is set to take a turn for the worst this week, with snow even expected in some areas, according to the Met Office.

A weather outlook on the Met Office’s website suggests that things are looking bleak with “unsettled and cool conditions” persisting.

This coming week will be colder than average and windy to start, particularly in the north and north-east, with a couple of weather warnings in place.

Many areas across the UK are set to see further rain showers, especially towards the north-east.

There is also a chance of snow and wintry conditions but only over the very highest peaks in Scotland.

It’s not all doom and gloom though. There is some relief over the August bank holiday weekend with lighter showers. The south and south-east will be turning mostly dry with winds easing.

Helen Roberts, a forecaster for the Met Office said: “Into the bank holiday, it looks like conditions will be returning nearer to normal for the time of year.”

Average temperatures for August in the UK are 19 degrees, 21 in the south-east and 16 in Scotland.

Those lamenting the end summer should not give up hopes just yet either.

“We can often see sunny and warm weather to Sept and beyond,” explained Ms Roberts.
