Over the last six years, people in Britain have become more certain of the monarchy's future and also more certain we will find evidence of life elsewhere in the universe.

Since 2010, YouGov has asked Britons 26 questions each year about what they thought the world would look like by 2050.

In 2010, most British people thought the monarchy would be abolished in the next 40 years. They also thought humanity had no chance of finding extra-terrestrial life.

Over the last six years, those opinions have been reversed. While 52 per cent of people in 2010 said the British Monarchy would be abolished by 2050, only 16 per cent believed the same in 2016.

Britons are now much more optimistic about discovering alien life, with 43 per cent thinking it will happen by 2050 compared to 12 per cent in 2010.

Another reversal was seen in the belief that all TV would be watched in 3D. In 2010, 65 per cent believed the future of television was three-dimensional, whereas 41 per cent think the same now.

People were also slightly more likely to believe: astronauts will land on Mars, there will be another world war and paper editions of newspapers will no longer exist.
