An "offensive" coffee shop sign has found itself at the centre of a legal row in London.

The managers of F***offee, in Bermondsey, south London have been warned that the owners of the shop's building will take them to court if the sign isn't removed.

The building owners sent a letter to the coffee shop via their lawyers dated 20th of October explaining that the tenants had "erected an offensive sign", warning that if it wasn't removed immediately they would have "no option" but to either remove it themselves or take them to court.

F***offee released a photo of the letter via their Twitter page, along with the caption: "No humour please, we're British."

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Bermondsey ward councillor Damian O’Brien referred to the spat as a "storm in a coffee cup".

"I think the shop owner is being ridiculously uncompromising," he said. "If the word had started with a C, that would have been an entirely different case altogether."

He added: "The police don’t feel that there’s enough evidence to proceed."
