The Halifax Building Society is cutting its mortgage rate by 0.35 percentage points to 7.64 per cent from 1 January. Nationwide has said that from Saturday most savers' rates will be cut by 0.5 percentage points and its mortgage rate by 0.25 percentage points to 7.74 per cent.
