GPs' leader warns Cameron on NHS

The Government's NHS reforms have taken another hit as the head of the professional body for GPs raised "serious concerns" about the proposals. Dr Clare Gerada, chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners, has warned David Cameron that the NHS must not be undermined as a result of radical reforms.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Dr Gerada made a number of recommendations to make the changes more palatable, chief among which was that the NHS must remain a comprehensive service that was available to all, free at the point of use and based on need, not on the ability to pay.

The Government has called a "pause" in the passage of the Health and Social Care Bill to listen to concerns.
