Independent candidate wins Sawbridgeworth by-election

An independent candidate triumphed in the last council by-election of 2010.

Eric Buckmaster defended a marginal Sawbridgeworth seat at East Hertfordshire District.

Both the coalition parties saw their vote shares fall and Liberal Democrats were pipped for third place by Labour which failed to fight last time.

Turnout in the cold weather just before Christmas was just 14.9%.

The next by-election is on January 6.
