Price war promises cheaper holidays

HOLIDAYS in 1993 may be cheaper than this year as a price war looms between tour operators. The fall in the value of the American dollar, reducing the cost of fuel, is a big factor in the equation that allows for the price drop in the latest 1993 brochures.

Britain's biggest tour operator, Thomson, has yet to publish its brochures, but expectations are high for budget buys.

Owners Abroad, one of the big three holiday firms, said that for certain programmes it was offering holidays for less than 1992 prices by cutting overheads and improving contract deals.

Falcon, part of Owners Abroad, has slashed its Florida prices - a family of four could save pounds 500 on a two-week holiday compared to this year. Next Island, which offers holidays in Greece, Cyprus, Thailand, Egypt and Turkey, said thousands of its packages were cheaper than those of 1992.
