A BABY boy was being looked after in hospital last night after his mother was caught shoplifting and fled without him.

Police said the woman left the 11-month-old child in a taxi while she went into a store in Leigh, Greater Manchester, where she stole a pair of shoes.

She was chased and caught by a store detective and held for 10 minutes but as police arrived she struggled free and fled without the baby.
