'Stag party brawl' lands Met officers in back of Lithuanian police car

Seven were detained in the country's capital of Vilnius

Allegations of a brawl involving seven police officers on holiday in Lithuania has led to them being arrested.

Scotland Yard confirmed the men were detained in Vilnius, the country’s capital, and said enquiries were being carried out by the Directorate of Professional Standards into what took place.

According to The Sun, the group were on a stag party celebration when they were arrested. Pictures obtained by the paper appeared to show them bloodied and stumbling around as they were handcuffed and put in to police cars.

If charged, the officers would have to return to Lithuania for legal proceedings.

A Met spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Directorate of Professional Standards is aware that seven police constables from Territorial Policing were arrested on Saturday, 22 November, whilst on leave in Vilnius, Lithuania.

“Enquiries into what has taken place are ongoing but are at an early stage. DPS will liaise with Lithuanian authorities.”

The Met spokesman said that the officers had not been suspended but he added that if the Lithuanian authorities charged the men “…we will obviously evaluate that decision”.
