A man has been arrested in connection with the death in Glasgow of the Kurdish asylum-seeker, Firsat Dag.

The man, 26, was taken into custody yesterday.Mr Dag, 22, died in the Sighthill area of Glasgow on Sunday, 5 August. The charged man will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

He, along with a second man, aged 25, have also been charged with the assault and robbery of a German tourist in the area on the same day.

The killing of Mr Dag, and a knife attack on an Iranian, Davoud Naseri, in Sighthill two days later sparked unrest among residents and asylum-seekers in the area.

It led to criticism of the Government's policy of dispersing refugees around the country and prompted the United Nations to condemn the "climate of vilification" surrounding asylum-seekers in Britain.
