Man jailed for murder sues over 11 lost years
A man wrongfully convicted of murdering a newsagent 14 years ago has launched a £1.1m compensation claim against the Home Office.
Michael O'Brien, 33, from Cardiff, is also planning to sue South Wales Police for the 11 years he spent in prison.
Mr O'Brien was jailed for life in 1988 with two other men for the murder of the newsagent, Phillip Saunders, who ran a kiosk at Cardiff central bus station, and was found dead on his doorstep in the city's Fairwater district in 1987. The trio were freed in 1999 after their convictions were quashed by the Court of Appeal.
Mr O'Brien said: "If the police just gave me a bit of paper admitting liability I would drop the whole thing immediately."
