The Prince of Wales sees the BBC as "an example of everything he dislikes, statist and left-leaning", a friend of his told The Independent on Sunday. His loathing helps to explain his outburst against its royal correspondent, Nicholas Witchell, last week.
"I can't bear that man," the Prince was overheard saying at a Klosters photo-call. "He's so awful." Witchell may be comforted to know he is in good company. "He has disliked every one of the BBC's correspondents," a friend of the Prince and Camilla Parker Bowles said.
His supporters saidmonths of baiting by media over the couple's wedding this Friday had driven him to distraction. "Even with his long experience ... this has been a baptism of fire. And there have been some pretty unpleasant arsonists," said Jonathan Dimbleby, his biographer.
