A BALLOT of train drivers that ended in a draw could enter the Guinness Book of Records, writes Terry Pattinson.

Two candidates, Ray Jackson of Sheffield and Tony West of east London, each polled 3,749 votes for the job of assistant general secretary of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen. More than 18,000 ballot papers were posted and there was a 40 per cent response, with only 12 spoiled papers.

Lew Adams, general secretary of Aslef, said: 'We could not believe it and neither could the Electoral Reform Society which counted them. We reckon it was a billion to one chance against it happening so we will be contacting the Guinness Book of Records.'
