A MAN returned home from a working trip to discover his wife had been bludgeoned to death after a violent struggle, Scotland Yard said yesterday.
The body of Caroline Williams, 29, an unemployed stage manager, was found lying partially clothed on a bed upstairs in their terraced house in Rotherhithe, south-east London, early yesterday.
A post-mortem examination revealed she had died from head injuries made by a blunt instrument. It was also believed she had been sexually assaulted.
Her husband, Tim, 31, also a stage manager, had just spent a week working in Plymouth. They had spoken by telephone just 26 hours earlier.
Police want to interview two men spotted separately loitering near the scene.
