With the death toll standing at some 248, scenes of families mourning were tragically all too common following the sinking of the Sewol ferry in South Korea, but somehow Fox News managed to use a clip from a separate disaster, possibly in Tibet.

Watch the video here

A clip about 1:40 into the video aroused suspicions online, showing "people presumably from another region of Asia" crying, according KoreAm, a blog about the Korean American experience.

Others have posited that the footage is actually of Tibetans mourning following the recent avalanche at Mt. Everest.

It is not yet clear whether the interpolation of a foreign clip was accidental, or if Fox News simply found itself short of content about victims' families and used whatever it could find in its library.

This is not the first time a news station has got its imagery mixed up however, with a Danish show last year showing an image of the Damascus skyline that was actually taken from an Assassin's Creed video game.
