The man who once threatened to expel "bogus" Chinese investors from Zambia became the country's new President yesterday.
Michael Sata, a former worker at London's Victoria station, led a campaign promising jobs and education. He played down the anti-China rhetoric that failed to win previous elections.
His election brings to an end the 20-year rule of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy, under whose guidance China has been a major player, supporting the nation's thriving economy with investments of nearly $3bn.
