This is the moment that terrified tourists fled from the Bardo museum in Tunisia as three gunmen launched a deadly attack that claimed the lives of 21 people.

The footage was captured by Italian tourist Maria Rita Gelotti, who was filming a guided tour, when the shooting started.

She left her camera on as she and her husband along with the other members of the group flee the building.

In the video the tour is interrupted by the sound of a gunshot echoing around the room. Tourists can be seen looking at each other in confusion before ducking for cover and panicking as more shots ring out.

In the video, which was released by Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Ms Gelotti is reportedly heard asking her husband, “Did they shoot?” as they try to get out of the museum.

The couple hid in a fire escape while the gunmen carried the massacre, which is thought to be the most deadly terrorist incident in Tunisia in 13 years.

The victims included 17 tourists from Italy, Germany, Poland and Spain. A mother of two from Shropshire Sally Adey, 57, was also killed in the attack while on holiday with her husband Robert, who was unharmed.

The Tunisian interior ministry released CCTV footage showing the extremists carrying out the attack.

The two men, who were killed during an exchange of gunfire, were named as Yassine Laabidi and Hatem Khachnaoui.

According to Tunisian leader President Beji Caid Essebsi, a third man is on the run.

Isis has claimed responsibility for the attack, calling the men “knights of the caliphate”.
