An armed man was arrested on Thursday sparking a lockdown at Arkansas State University.

University officials first reported that there was an active shooter, however, police later clarified that no shots were fired.

University spokesman Bill Smith said the man arrested an hour after he was reported on campus. The university remained on lockdown as police investigated the suspect's vehicle, the Associated Press reports.

John Miller, a junior at the university, told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette that he saw through a window a green pickup truck drive onto the lawn of the student union. Nearly five minutes later "people came running and screaming freaking out," he said.

Jonesboro Emergency 911 Director Jeff Presley told Tuscon News Now that the suspect was carrying both a gas can and a shotgun.
