Bernie Sanders reaches one million donations faster than any other candidate
Chalk one up for the socialist
Bernie Sanders, the Junior Senator from Vermont, has become the first 2016 presidential candidate to reach a million donations — and he apparently hit the mark before President Barack Obama did in 2008 and 2012.
President Obama reached one million donations in February 2008 and October 2011, CBS News reported.
The Sander's campaign encouraged supporters on Facebook to spread the word and reach the 1 million mark before the third quarter's end.
“This deadline is an opportunity to send a powerful message to the political media and the super PACs attacking us about the strength of our campaign. Let’s make sure they hear us loud and clear,” the messages read.
The campaign first made the announcement on /r/SandersForPresident, the campaign’s subreddit, which boasts more than 110,000 members.
