A police bomb squad was called to Miami International Airport after a “suspicious item” was detected on a flight from Paris, police said.

“There was a suspicious incident,” Sgt Barrow of the Miami Dade Police Department told The Independent, adding that an item had been found.

“The plane has been taken to a secure area of the airport and the bomb squad is investigating,” he added.

After the flight landed the passengers were taken off the plane “and we are trying to determine whether this is something to be concerned about or not.”

Flight 63, a Boeing 777 from Charles de Gaulle Airport, arrived safely at MIA at 3:32 pm, Alexis Aran Coello, corporate communications manager for American Airlines.

Airport Spokesman Greg Chin told The Independent that the plane was “moved to a remote area of the airfield for the investigation and is not affecting any other airport operations.”

“We have this area specifically for incidents like this,” he said, adding that the passengers were being kept on airport buses on the airfield while police investigated.

“Once they complete the investigation the passengers will be allowed back aboard the plane and will be able to go through customs,” he said.
