Coronavirus: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively donate $1 million to food-banks to help most vulnerable in US and Canada

‘Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low-income families,’ the Deadpool actor wrote

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have donated $1 million pounds to food-bank relief charities trying to help vulnerable people amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple announced their donation on social media and urged others to provide help where they could.

“I think we can all agree, Covid-19 is an a******. If you can help, visit, http://FeedingAmerica.org and/or http://FoodBanksCanada.ca,” the Deadpool star wrote on twitter yesterday.

“Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low-income families,” he also wrote.

“Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. If you can give, these orgs need our help.”

Lively took to Instagram to update her own followers adding, “Though we must be distancing ourselves to protect those who don’t have the opportunity to self-quarantine, we can stay connected.”

“Remember the lonely and isolated. Facetime, Skype, make a video. Remember the love that can travel through all this,“ she wrote.

​Feed America and Food Banks Canada operate networks of food banks throughout the US and Canada respectively.

”We are so grateful for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively‘s extremely generous donation, and for all of the donations we’ve been receiving,“ Dan Nisbet, vice president of Major Gifts at Feeding America, told Variety.

”The Feeding America network of 200 food banks is working tirelessly to aid and provide meal assistance to our most vulnerable neighbours — children, the elderly, families struggling with food insecurity and individuals facing job disruptions — throughout our nation during this unprecedented time. Generosity like theirs will make all the difference.“

Both actors also took time to emphasise the importance of staying connected with friends and family throughout the outbreak, asking followers to support those around them.

The couple, who are often known for their dry sense of humour, then tried to lighten their posts with some sarcastic jokes.

The Marvel actor made a nod to X-Men star Hugh Jackman by asking followers to call him on a jokingly listed number ”1-555-[sad face emoji]-Hugh.

Lively made an amusing dig at her other half by suggesting that ‘emotional distancing’ would not allow Reynolds to escape his mother in law jesting that “Nothing can save him.”

A number of A-list stars have spoken up in support of Feeding America amidst the crisis including Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman, Ben Affleck, Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Cumming, sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, Josh Gad and Nick Lachey, according to Reuters.
