Hurricane Michael, a category two storm due to hit the US Gulf Coast on Wednesday, is forecast to be a “dangerous major hurricane," according to the National Hurricane Center.

The twitter account of the National Hurricane Center warned that Michael could “produce three life threatening hazards” inducing heavy rainfall and hurricane-force winds.

The storm is set to produce winds of 100mph as it makes its way towards the Florida coast. By the time the storm hits the ground, it is expected to reach category three.

At least 13 people have killed by the storm so far, in central America, with Florida Governor Rick Scott expanding a state of emergency declaration.

The governor has warned residents to get as far away as they can from the path of the “massive storm that could bring total devastation to parts of our state, especially in the panhandle“.

The National Weather Service has warned that over 300 miles of coastline are currently under threat, as 120,000 residents have been warned to evacuate their homes.
