The parents of a boy who can die anytime from serious illnesses have been urging people around the world to send him uplifting cards and stickers for his 9th birthday – as they’re his favourite.

Bubby Everson, who was infected with cytomegalovirus at birth, doesn’t want much for his birthday, however parents Thomas and Brandi have called on kind strangers via Facebook to help make the day extra special with a “card shower” tomorrow.

Their son – who can have as many as 10 seizures a day – was diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, deafness, vision impairment and has the mental ability of a child half his age.

Bubby – whose birthday is on 11 February but will be celebrating a few days early – is also fed via a tube through his stomach and has ADHD.

Mr and Mrs Everson are planning a treasure hunt for the celebration with the mail being part of the search. Stickers are Bubby’s favourite and many well-wishers have generously sent sheets of them with their cards.

“If there are stickers in it, he loves it,” Mr Everson told KTLA. “He’ll play with the stickers. He’ll put stickers all over the place.”

As well as stickers, Bubby loves receiving mail and it makes him happy to get post or even just junk mail that comes through the door, his parents had said.

The PO box set up by Bubby’s parents in their small town of Graham will be kept open for an undetermined time after his party.

“It’s very tough. I love him to death and I wouldn’t change him, but knowing that we could lose him at any time — that’s hard,” his mother Brandi told KTLA.

“We’re blessed,” she added.

“I’m so glad we have the child that we have, because we have the life that we have. And he’s amazing.”
