Las Vegas shooting: New CCTV video shows people running for their lives

Las Vegas police have released footage from a camera positioned on top of the Mandalay Bay Resort recording during last October's mass shooting in the city - the deadliest in modern US history.

The eerie video shows floodlights sweep the concert crowd before the shooting starts.

As the massacre unfolds, bright lights come up and people can be seen fleeing the area.

Others stay behind in an attempt to assist the injured as chaos ensues around them.

Gunman Stephen Paddock unleashed a deadly barrage from a 32nd-floor room of the hotel, killing 58 people and injuring more than 800.

The newly-released footage, provided more than eight months after the shooting, represents the fifth batch of records made public by the Las Vegas police department.

Hundreds of emergency calls made throughout the massacre have also been released, documenting the terror of Paddock’s 10-minute shooting spree.

According to County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, investigators still don’t know a motive for the attack. It now seems unlikely that one will ever be determined, he added.
