Son is born as father battles for his life after cinema killings

Heavily pregnant Katie Medley and her husband, Caleb, were at the midnight showing of the Batman film as a final date before they became parents, when the gunman burst in and rained bullets through the cinema.

Yesterday, Ms Medley gave birth to their first child, Hugo Jackson, at the same hospital where his father remains in a critical condition after being shot in the head.

The story of the couple, pictured, is one of hundreds to have touched people in the wake of last Friday's massacre. Mr Medley's condition was said to be improving last night.
