Donald Trump has spent close to a third of his time in office at his own properties, according to a new report.

A review of the US President’s travel movements by the Wall Street Journal found he had stayed more than 100 nights at his company’s properties since January.

The time included almost 40 days at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Mr Trump has also spent more than a month at Mar-a-Lago, where he and his family are currently staying over the Christmas period.

The President came under criticism for his Thanksgiving trip to the Florida resort, which he has described as the “winter White House”.

Mr Trump had tweeted his stay would be spent “having meetings and working the phones”, hours before he made a trip to his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

During Barack Obama’s presidency, Mr Trump repeatedly criticised his predecessor for spending time playing golf.

“I play golf to relax. My company is in great shape. @BarackObama plays golf to escape work while America goes down the drain,” he tweeted in 2011.

It is estimated Mr Obama played golf around 300 times during his eight years in office, an average of just under 40 rounds per year.

Various estimates suggest Mr Trump has played golf between 60 and 81 times since his assumed office in January.

A YouGov poll in October found more than half of Republicans believe Mr Trump is the hardest-working president since the end of the Second World War.
