Jealously is an ugly thing, especially when it leads to shooting a co-worker’s car: which is what a worker in Florida did when he lost out on an “Employee of the Month” award.

Willie Mitchell was charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle after he shot at his fellow Walmart colleague’s car, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office.

CCTV footage shows Mr Mitchell parking his vehicle next to his co-worker’s car earlier this month.

Investigators said he then wound down a back window, shot into his colleague’s car window and drove away.

Luckily, she was in the store during the incident.

After the accolade was announced, Mitchell began to argue with the victim about their workload. She told detectives that during the argument Mitchell repeatedly said: “I’m gonna show you.”

Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman from the Sheriff’s Office, said the shooting stemmed from some bad feelings around the award.

“She was announced as the employee of the month which you would think that would be something good, people would be happy for her,” Ms. Coleman-Wright told the CBS 4 news station, adding: “but there was one employee who wasn’t happy.”

Police investigators said they are uncertain why Mitchell chose to shoot his co-worker’s car.

“Perhaps Mitchell wanted to be employee of the month but clearly these actions that we saw in response to this, I think we see why he wasn’t chosen as employee of the month,” the Sheriff's office said.

A Walmart representative said that Willie Mitchell no longer works for the company.

The employee of the month does not receive any money or gifts - it is strictly recognition from the store.
