Armed robber foiled by shoe

CCTV footage has been released showing a shotgun-wielding robber foiled by a shoe belonging to the owner of a New York convenience store.

The incident took place at a Citgo petrol station in Staatsburg, New York, last Tuesday.

The video shows the armed robber sneaking into the shop before aiming his shotgun at shop owner, Amrik Singh. Mr Singh initially opens the till and starts filling up the plastic bag given to him by the robber.

Seconds later, the 54-year-old shop owner grabs the robber’s arm before throwing his shoe at him. The shoe appears to hit the robber's neck– visibly startled, he flees the shop with Mr Singh in quick pursuit.

It has been reported there was a scuffle outside with the robber firing his shotgun into the ground before escaping in a dark vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’ 10” tall, with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact New York state police on 845-876-4049.
