Video shows woman ‘steal wedding ring’ from dead grandmother in coffin

Video has emerged of a woman apparently stealing a wedding ring from the finger of a female corpse at a funeral home in Texas.

Footage shows Lois Hicks lying in an open casket at the Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa, as a woman enters the room and approaches her body.

She is seen touching Hicks’ hand several times before leaving.

Odessa Police Department have released the CCTV footage and launched an investigation.

The suspect is described as a “heavy set white female wearing a brown long sleeve sweater, black sweat pants and black sandals.”

She “fled the scene in a red or maroon 4-door Saturn” on the evening of 8 April.

A picture of the ring posted on Facebook with the caption: "Here is the ring of anyone sees one like it for sale on a trading post."

Hicks’ granddaughter Brooke Vaughan Burns wrote on Facebook: "As if my grandmother passing away hasn't been hard enough on my entire family now some low life thief went into the funeral home yesterday around 5.40pm and stole the ring off her finger."

Anyone with information in reference to this incident is encouraged to contact Odessa Police Department or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS.
