Brazilian police used stun grenades and tear gas on 'rowdy' Argentine football fans after the World Cup game between Argentina and Switzerland.

A Sao Paulo police spokesperson said officers were called in following reports that a group of Argentine supporters were partying a little too hard as they celebrated their victory near the upscale neighbourhood of Vila Madalena.

The officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the stun grenades were used to disperse the crowd, but no one was hurt and no arrests were made.

The latest incident involving Argentine supporters comes a week after an Argentinian citizen was shot in the leg in a bar brawl in the city of Porto Alegre as a group of men quarreled over football, throwing beer bottles and trading insults.

More than 100,000 Argentine fans have arrived in Brazil to watch their national football team play in the World Cup. Yesterday, Argentina won 1-0 against Switzerland thanks to a goal from Angel Di Maria in extra time.
