A woman who gave birth in the back of a taxi has named her baby Uber.

The woman, from Devli in south Delhi, ended up giving birth in the back of the cab after an ambulance had failed to arrive at her home after she went into labour.

She called an Uber to take her to hospital instead, but Uber driver Babli Shahnawaz had to help deliver the baby himself.

“The woman was writhing in pain and her friends did not know what to do,” he told The Times of India.

“I pulled the towels from the seats and poured some drinking water into a bowl. The child was born within minutes and I was really happy to see that he was responding,” he said.

Shahnawaz then drove the group to the hospital before carrying the woman onto a stretcher and into a building.

The driver said helping with the baby’s birth was one of the happiest moments of his life, and after the woman’s family asked him to name the child, he decided to call it Uber.
