Chinese actor and singer Gao Liu on Tuesday shared pictures of a botched up nose surgery, warning people about the dangers of the cosmetic procedure.

Ms Liu took to Sina Weibo, to post post-surgery pictures which showed the tip of her nose blackened with dead flesh. She attributed it to a "cosmetic surgery incident" that had led to nasal necrosis.

The star said that in October, her friend had introduced her to a plastic surgery hospital in Guangzhou, in southern China. She went ahead with the procedure as she thought a "slight trim" to her nose would help boost her career, reported the BBC.

“I had thought that these four hours (of surgery) would make me more beautiful, but I didn’t realise that they would be the beginning of a nightmare," she told her five million followers. "I later found out that the plastic surgery hospital was not qualified to carry out the nose surgery."

She added that she had subsequently lost contracts for two films that she had signed, due to the botched up surgery, adding that reconstructive surgery cannot be done for a year due to the extent of damage done.

According to local media reports, the matter is under investigation.

Cosmetic surgery is a booming industry in China and is prevalent to the extent that by the end of 2018, nearly 20 million of its population has already gone through the knife procedure. South China Morning Post reported that many did so, in order to improve their chances at love and at work.
