A man who allegedly decapitated his wife has been captured on film walking in a busy street carrying her severed head and an axe.

The disturbing scene unfolded in the western city of Pune, around 100 miles from Mumbai, as a passer-by filmed on a phone.

The suspected culprit, identified as Ramachandra Chavan, 60, was seen carrying the head by the hair in one hand, and an axe in the other, Sky News reported citing News World India.

Conflicting reports suggested that the woman was aged between 45 and 55-years-old.

Mr Chavan, understood to be a security guard, reportedly attacked his wife because he suspected she and their son-in-law were engaged in an illicit relationship, police told The Times of India.

Police officers arrested the man. They then seized the woman's remains and covered it with a cloth.

Mr Chavan has been arrested and charged with murder, according to Zee News.
