Airport security can be confusing at the best of times, but for one inexperienced holidaymaker it has left him the laughing stock of the internet.

Footage has emerged showing the solo traveller climbing into an X-ray scanner at a Chinese airport because he couldn’t understand how the machine worked.

Footage reportedly shot on an airport CCTV camera shows the man standing next to the machine after loading several large suitcases into it.

When security staff asked a man not exactly familiar with the procedure to go through X-ray screening, he did something no one could have expected. #VideofromChina

Apparently confused as to what happens next, the inexperienced passenger is seen still holding his cabin bag and speaking with a security official before wandering back towards the scanner.

The guard was then left stunned when, moments later, the man decided to climb on to the conveyor belt and crawl into the machine itself.

Despite the official shouting at the man not to climb into the X-ray scanner, he vanishes from sight. The shocked security guard then turns around to face the camera, a look of despair on his face.

The footage has gone viral on Chinese social media in recent days but users are at a loss to explain exactly when and where the incident occurred.

The episode wasn’t the only bizarre occurrence at a Chinese airport recently, however.

On 10 December a plane was delayed for 10 hours when bungling firefighters called to investigate sparks coming from an engine proceeded to spray the wrong aircraft with foam.

The incident took place in at Fuzhou City Airport in southern China and saw eight fire trucks frantically surround the Fuzhou Airlines plane before spraying the firefighting foam.

Moments later air traffic control contacted the safety team to inform them that the issue was actually with a nearby AirChina aircraft, according to the Daily Mail.
