Auschwitz compromise near
NEW YORK (Reuter) - Jewish leaders and the film director Steven Spielberg appeared close yesterday to reaching a compromise on his plans to use the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz in Poland as a location for his next film, parties involved in the negotiations said.
The World Jewish Congress, the Auschwitz museum and the museum's international council objected to Mr Spielberg's plans to erect a fake gas chamber at the concentration camp site and use hundreds of extras for his forthcoming film, Schindler's List.
