A helicopter installing a seven-storey-high Christmas tree on Auckland's waterfront crashed after hitting cables, but amazingly the pilot escaped serious injury.

TV footage shows the rear of the aircraft break up after the rotor blades get caught, while the pilot Greg Gribble is tossed around. Mr Gribble, who has 20 years' experience, says he's "doing fine".
