President Bill Clinton has nominated retired Admiral William Crowe as ambassador to Britain, the White House said yesterday, Reuter reports from Washington. Admiral Crowe, 69, chairman of the Pentagon's Joint Chiefs of Staff until he retired in 1989, is an expert in both defence and foreign affairs. He was Mr Clinton's highest-ranking military supporter in the 1992 presidential campaign.
