A man has attacked and wounded two passengers on a train in Austria.

Austrian police say the attacker, a 60-year-old German national, appeared mentally confused.

Two people have been hospitalised after the attack. A 19-year-old man had wounds to the stomach and back and a 17-year-old male suffered a throat injury.

The attack took place around 6.30am (local time) in Roethis, on the Austrian-Swiss border.

The attacker was arrested by police with the help of another passenger, who suffered minor injuries to his hand.

He is currently being questioned by police.

Police ruled out any connection to an attack on a Swiss train on Saturday that left both the attacker and a victim dead after the man attacked passengers with a knife and flammable liquid.
