Earth tremors prompt evacuation in El Hierro
Homes have been evacuated and roads closed on the southern tip of the island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands, off the coast of Spain, as fears of a possible volcanic eruption grow.
El Hierro experienced two earth tremors last week, and volcanic material from undersea fissures was spotted floating off the coast. Seismic activity in the Canaries has been on the increase since July, with more than 10,000 tremors recorded in the past four months.
