Soldiers and politicians will form Nigeria's new interim government with the civilians in a majority if President Ibrahim Babangida accepts a recommendation presented yesterday by a high-powered committee, Karl Maier reports from Lagos.

The committee, set up by Gen Babangida last week to form an interim government after his decision to annul the 12 June presidential elections, also recommended that the military government pass a decree to legalise the new interim administration.
