Vatican City - Pope John Paul II celebrated Christmas with a litany of conflicts bloodying much of the world, including mention of Algeria and the Middle East.
The Pope opened his traditional Urbi et Orbi message by paying tribute to families. "As I look at families in the light of Christmas, I cannot but turn my thoughts to the greater human family, unfortunately torn by persistent forms of selfishness and violence," he said. AP
