French back Pacific test ban
Paris - France, the United States and Britain will sign the Treaty of Rarotonga on Monday, turning the South Pacific into a nuclear-free zone, the French Foreign Ministry said yesterday. The three Western powers will sign three protocols of the treaty, which bans nuclear weapons and nuclear tests in the region, where France completed a series of six bitterly criticised nuclear-weapons tests in January.
